Community Cleanup Day yields hundreds of pounds of trash

Community Cleanup Day—which encompassed Port Chester, Rye Brook and the City of Rye in a joint effort on Saturday, Nov. 6—attracted people of all ages. John Hofstetter of Milton Court picks up a piece of plastic from the Port Chester Metro-North commuter lot on Broad Street.

About 30 members of the Port Chester High School Key Club cleaned up trash along a closed off portion of Bowman Avenue in Rye Brook, including freshman Lena Zheng, junior Amy Zheng and junior Natalie Pinto, the latter emerging from the woods with an empty bottle.
Port Chester High School sophomore Bryan Rivera carries a bag full of trash plus two large pieces of plastic he found in the woods along Bowman Avenue. All the debris picked up along Bowman, including a full bottle of water to fit a dispenser and a toilet, weighed 607 pounds.

Port Chester High School freshman Cristian Montenegro found a bicycle in the woods on Bowman Avenue which he plans to use after a minor repair.
