Earth Week events help beautify and sustain the Town of Rye

Port Chester High School sophomores Allegra Burke and Jessica Sachs were among the diverse group of volunteers beautifying the Anthony J. Posillipo Center grounds in Rye Brook with native plants Saturday morning under the direction of Town of Rye sustainability consultant Melissa Grieco and Director of Grounds and Facilities Vic Federico. Greg Rivera, assistant to the Rye Brook village administrator, worked with the Town of Rye to organize this Earth Week effort.
Concerned residents Chrissy Fay, who lives at The Mariner apartment building, and Nao Rotundo of Hobart Avenue spent Saturday morning picking up sticks and cleaning trash from the Metro-North property at the corner of Westchester Avenue and Broad Street.
Michael Christopher, husband of Arianna Christopher, co-chair of the Port Chester Beautification Commission, carries leopard’s bane plants to go in the beds along the Byram River walkway.
Julie Goodchild of Yorktown, who lived in Port Chester for eight years, picks up trash in the Port Chester Marina parking lot. She is a member of The Cap Cares Volunteer Rewards Program which runs monthly programs. Besides community service, the carrot is free tickets to concerts at The Capitol Theatre.
Laura Gunlogson, center, daughters Ella, 17, at left, and Avery, 14, of Harrison and Jenna Conti, 23, of Greenwich tackle a major planting project on Saturday, Apr. 23 at the walkway along the Byram River organized by the Port Chester Beautification Commission. They are members of The Cap Cares Volunteer Rewards Program which started in October 2021. That group, affiliated with The Capitol Theatre, paired up with the Beautification Commission for Saturday’s Community Planting & Cleanup Day sponsored by the Town of Rye.
