Port Chester Middle School transforms into the Jungle of Nool for ‘Seussical’
December 1, 2022 at 7:32 a.m.
The Cat in the Hat (Sophia Berlingo) is his name, and reporting on all the latest gossip is his aim. Will Gertrude McFuzz (left, Juliet Petriello) let the cat out of the bag and tell everyone how she feels about Horton the Elephant? Find out when the Port Chester Middle School Drama Club debuts its performance of “Seussical Jr.” this weekend.
The Wickershams (left to right: Angela Boctor, Madison McConnell and Joseph Almanzar) listen intently to the gossip circulating in the Jungle of Nool. Could it be true that Horton the Elephant is the “Biggest Blame Fool”?
Horton the Elephant (Alexa Melgar) is the only creature in the Jungle of Nool who can hear the Whos living on the speck of dust he carries. During a dress rehearsal on Monday, Nov. 28, Melgar practices channeling the emotions Horton feels as he listens to their stories.
Ever since the Cat in the Hat (Sophia Berlingo) introduced Jojo (Ryann Onofrio-Franceschini) to the world of thinking and dreaming, Jojo’s imagination has run rampant. But not all the other Whos see that as a good thing.
Gertrude McFuzz (Juliet Petriello) has a massive crush on Horton the Elephant, but she doesn’t think she’s pretty enough to catch his attention. Her lament, “The One Feather Tail of Miss Gertrude McFuzz,” echoes through the auditorium as she feigns playing the ukulele.
As Mayzie LaBird (Mary Mateus, second from left) serves sass and sings about how wonderful and gorgeous she is, her posse of bird girls (left to right: Liana Fornes, Esmerelda Munoz Rodriguez and Antonia Rieke) backs her up.
The cast of “Seussical Jr.” performs a number on the stage of Port Chester Middle School’s auditorium.
In two separate worlds, Jojo (Ryann Onofrio-Franceschini) and Horton the Elephant (Alexa Melgar) struggle to fit in and be accepted for who they are, which they express in their duet “Alone in the Universe.”
Mayzie LaBird (Mary Mateus) rolls her eyes at Horton the Elephant (Alexa Melgar) during a conversation about the former’s egg. She wants to go on a vacation, but she’s forced to watch her egg—unless someone like Horton takes up the task.
