Tasting the holidays
December 15, 2022 at 2:58 a.m.
Helping students get a start on their tasty masterpieces, Blind Brook mom Elaine Iarocci wriggles frosting toward the tip of a piping bag while kindergartners Mason Paek (front), Casey Wallace and Sam Sussman eagerly wait. On Monday, Dec. 12, Ridge Street Elementary School kindergarten and first-graders attended a PTA-sponsored cookie decorating fundraiser, while the other grades were invited to do the same the following two nights.
Embodying the “Little Drummer Boy,” first-grader Maddox Emott uses his spoons to dish out beats on anything in sight, at first seemingly more interested in making music than pretty cookies.
Kindergartener Charlie Liebenstein stirs his frosting carefully to find the perfect not too hard, not too runny consistency.
Before getting to work on his cookie art, first-grader Kaden Firestone takes a good listen to his piping bag to find out if it has any secret decorating tips to share.
With a yearning grin, first-grader Catherine Iarocci pours several pinches of sprinkles on her purple-frosted cookie, giving it a final razzle-dazzle touch.
Careful not to break their concentration, kindergartners Riley Cooper (left) and Hannah Stern delicately and artfully adorn their snowman baked goods with frosting.
The magic of the holidays feels stronger when family is around. Brandy Beltas cuddles up with her first-grade son George as they work together on their decorating.
The best part about decorating cookies is tasting the final product, as first-grader Gabrielle Koyfman can speak to—when she’s done with her treat!
