December 22, 2022 at 12:43 a.m.
Lael Porcelli and Lou Russo of Hobart Avenue dress up in Colonial garb and stand in front of a banner of an 1871 painting of Westchester Avenue in Port Chester looking down to the Byram River and the Sound by Charles Themmen. The original painting hangs in the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library. The Russos were among many who tried on period costumes at the Port Chester Historical Society’s WinterFest on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 17 at the Bush Lyon Homestead at 479 King St.

Jessica Sachs of Munson Street and Lennon Anderson of King Street, both juniors at Port Chester High School and members of the school’s National Honor Society, help 8-year-old Camila Molina of Bulkley Avenue dress up for a photo in Colonial clothing.
Arianna Butkiewicz, 9, of Locust Avenue fills her plate with a selection of goodies from countries around the world which were available at WinterFest.
Port Chester Historical Society board member Kikki Short explains to Lupe and Henry Encarnacion and their 6-month-old son Matthew of Austin Place how the brick oven in the wall next to a fireplace at the Bush Lyon Homestead worked in days gone by.
Historian and Port Chester Historical Society member Peter Feinman goes over the inner workings of the Town of Rye and Village of Port Chester with longtime village residents Ann Finegan and Henry Bylicky of North Regent Street. It was their first time visiting the Bush Lyon Homestead.
Five-year-old Flavia Aparcana of Irving Avenue colors a paper ornament to hang on the Christmas tree behind her.
Donning a period dress, Savannah Jones, 7, of Seymour Road is as pretty as the replica of the historic painting of Port Chester behind her.
Lifelong Port Chester resident Frances Nurena, who lives across the street from the Bush Lyon Homestead, tries on a Colonial costume for size.
Lennon Anderson reads a children’s book to her fellow Port Chester High School National Honor Society members who volunteered at WinterFest while Orhan Eski makes sound effects using the very out of tune piano at the Bush Lyon Homestead.
