BBMS students tell a tale as old as time
February 2, 2022 at 6:52 p.m.
The Beast (played by Pablo Zeitune) laments with stubbornness about his decision to imprison Maurice (played by Rory Mayer) just before Belle (played by Hannah Levine) makes a sacrificial offer to take her father’s place in captivity. The Blind Brook Middle School students are rehearsing on Monday, Jan. 31, for their upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Minding her own business, Belle (played by Hannah Levine) quietly reads in the corner before Gaston (played by Simon Riley) approaches with Lefou (played by Andy Montvelisky) to disrupt while making his romantic intentions known.
In a dramatic encounter, Maurice (played by Rory Mayer) fends off the wolves attacking him in the forest before running to the Beast’s castle for protection.
Following a discouraging welcome from the Beast, Belle (played by Hannah Levine) finds comfort in meeting Mrs. Potts (played by Holly O’Neill) and Madame De La Grande Bouche (played by Maya Hazan)—all after taking in the initial shock of seeing inanimate objects come to life.
Village folk surround Gaston (played by Simon Riley) to comfort him about his failed proposal to Belle before jumping into the song named for him, “Gaston.”
With an ensemble of plates and dining utensils behind him, Lumiere (played by Cassandra Brunetti) extravagantly welcomes Belle to the castle with the song “Be Our Guest.”
Remorseful over the way he treated Belle, the Beast (played by Pablo Zeitune) gazes into his sacred wilting rose, reminding him that time to break the curse is running out.
Before becoming the Beast, the prince (played by Pablo Zeitune) begs the Enchantress (played by Abigail Weintraub), whom he was mean to, for mercy.
Belle (played by Hannah Levine) confesses her insecurities to her father Maurice (played by Rory Mayer) as he twiddles with his inventions.
When Belle makes her way into the castle, Lumiere and Cogsworth (played by Cassandra Brunetti and Livia Sherman) start glorifying the idea that she may be the key to breaking the curse.
The “Beauty and the Beast” ensemble surrounds Gaston (played by Simon Riley) as he characteristically asserts dominance by stepping on his friend Lefou (played by Andy Montvelisky) at the end of the musical number “Gaston.”
