Old-time Port Chester reduced to rubble

By Tuesday, July 16, the two-story wooden residential buildings with one-story storefronts facing Westchester Avenue that stood for decades across from The Capitol Theatre had been reduced to this large pile of building materials. A 12-story mixed-use building with 223 residential units and retail on the first floor has been approved for the 140-150 Westchester Ave. site.

Most of the historic wood and brick buildings that stood at 27-45 North Main St., including The Dorothy, which was constructed in 1890, have been torn down within the last two weeks. This view from Abendroth Avenue looking toward North Main shows the last vestiges of those structures. A mixed-use 6-story development has received approval for the prominent downtown location, which will also include 28 Adee St.
