Blind Brook School District looks for input on calendar

Dr. Colin Byrne, superintendent of the Blind Brook School District, is looking for feedback regarding how the calendar for future school years will be developed.
In an effort to ensure they are providing an inclusive atmosphere, Byrne is welcoming input from district staff and families on the possibility of adding days off in the calendar for religious observances or cultural celebrations that are not currently considered in the school year.
He gave a presentation on the district’s current standards when creating the calendar at the Board of Education meeting on Oct. 3 and listed all factors that impact planning, ranging from federal, state and contractual mandates, as well as traditional past practices the district has used when developing what the school year should look like.
