After an intense preseason consisting of multi-hour practices and scrimmages against strong teams, the Blind Brook varsity volleyball season has officially started. The Lady Trojans are looking to continue their legacy from last year to give Blind Brook its second volleyball title.
It was originally planned that they would have their first official game at Pawling on Tuesday, Sept. 5, but the game was cancelled and has not yet been rescheduled.
Two days later, on Thursday, Sept. 7, the Lady Trojans played their home opener against Croton-Harmon. The final score was 3-0, a win for the Blind Brook volleyball team.
The first set was 25-9, the next was 25-16, and the last was 25-14. Fernanda Julian had 18 assists with five aces, Tanisha Venkatapur and Oriah Rosenfeld both had seven kills, Sophia Carey had 10 digs and Maria Levya-Pereyra had 12 digs. The girls had a convincing win against Pawling and more games like it are expected to play out during the upcoming season.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the volleyball team took on North Salem away and prevailed again. The final score was 3-0, with set scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-15. During the match Rosenfeld had 16 kills, Madeline Hirsh had three kills, Venkatapur had 12 aces and Julian had 24 assists.
This is just the beginning of the season. The Lady Trojans are only two games in, and they have 16 contests left in the season. They start with two wins and no losses, but with the scores they set in both games, the team showed true dominance in their league. These performances give a little insight into what opponents and fans alike should expect for the rest of the season because many are hoping to see them repeat as sectional champions and make it even further.
The Lady Trojans were scheduled to play two matches after press time, one on Wednesday, Sept. 13 away vs Briarcliff and another on Thursday, Sept. 14 at home against Tuckahoe. They will then have another home match against Valhalla on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and an away matchup vs Pleasantville on Thursday, Sept. 21, both at 4:30 p.m.
