During the past two weeks the Blind Brook volleyball team added some losses to their record, but they also racked up a few more wins. The team is staying strong despite their most recent losses and now has a record of 4-3.
On Wednesday, Sept. 13 they played away at Briarcliff. The final score of the game was 3-0 in favor of the Lady Trojans and the set scores were 25-21, 25-15, 25-18. Oriah Rosenfeld had 13 kills, Maddy Hirsch had three blocks and Fernanda Julian provided 13 assists. This was a convincing win for Blind Brook.
They had another match just the next day at home against Tuckahoe, which was extremely close, but the Lady Trojans were able to secure the win. The final score of the game was 3-2. The first two sets Blind Brook won 25-20 and 25-23. The next two sets they lost to Tuckahoe 10-25 and 18-25. With these, it would come down to the final set to determine the winner of the match which means that the set would only be played to 15. The final set went to Blind Brook with a 15-7 win. Oriah Rosenfeld ended the game with 21 kills, Tanisha Venkatapur had 10 kills, Maria Pereyra had 17 digs, Sophia Carey had three digs, Zaara Suhail had 13 digs and Fernanda Julian executed five aces and 34 assists.
On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Lady Trojans played Valhalla at home and lost to the Vikings 1-3. They lost the first set 22-25, won the second 30-28, lost the third 21-25 and fell in the final set 10-25. Despite the loss, the team had some impressive individual statistics. Oriah Rosenfeld had 15 kills, Venkatapur had five kills and Carey had seven aces.
Two days later the team regrouped to play against a strong Pleasantville team on the Panthers’ home court. The Blind Brook team was not able prevail and, in the end, they lost the game 0-3. The scores of the three sets were 18-25, 10-25, 15-25 and there were no notable statistics from this game.
On Friday, Sept 22, the Lady Trojans played again, this time on their home court against Rye Neck. Julian had 20 assists, Oriah Rosenfeld had 13 kills and Venkatapur had five kills. The Blind Brook team played an intense match but their effort was not enough, and they lost the game 0-3. The score was identical at 22-25 in each set. The girls fought hard, diving after every ball, talking through each play together and working as a team overall.
One a separate note, a star hitter on the Blind Brook team, Ella Rosenfeld, has been suffering from a back injury and has been unable to play this season. She has been working hard to make it back on the court before the end of the season and has made progress in her recovery. Just before the game began, she came out and hit a few balls and said she was feeling good. The team hopes that she is back and able to play within the next few games.
Although the Lady Trojans may be on a losing streak, they are still looking to make this season a success. They are working hard and hoping to add a few more wins to their record during the next week. They have away games against Westlake after press time on Wednesday, Sept. 27 and against Putnam Valley on Thursday, Sept. 28. They will then play three games at home: versus Edgemont at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, have a rematch with Pleasantville on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and a rematch with Briarcliff on Thursday, Oct. 5, both at 4:30 p.m.
