While parked in the Stop & Shop parking lot on Saturday, Nov. 23, Port Chester police officers were drawn to the sound of a commotion at the front of the 25 Waterfront Pl. store.

Police claim an employee was in pursuit of Fernando Mejia-Sosa, who had stolen two cases of Modelo from the store. Officers ordered the 24-year-old to stop, but he allegedly dropped the drinks and ran onto South Main Street. Officers chased him onto East William Street, where he surrendered.

The employee who followed Mejia-Sosa alleged the suspect had been served a no trespass letter earlier that month.

While in custody, officers allegedly discovered the 26 Exchange Pl. resident’s social security card to be fraudulent, as it was not printed on banknote paper. When checked, the identification number was allegedly associated with an 86-year-old.

Mejia-Sosa was charged with burglary in the third degree and possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, both felonies.
