A car accident in the parking lot of the Costco at 1 Westchester Ave. resulted in the arrest of a New Rochelle man on Friday, Dec. 6.
One of the drivers involved alleged to responding Port Chester police officers that Carlos Morales made a turn without using a signal and crashed into them.
Police claim that while collecting the documents of both drivers, Morales was unable to provide them with proof of insurance.
During their conversation, officers allegedly smelled alcohol on the breath of the 55-year-old. Morales allegedly failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested after refusing to take a breath test at 5:11 p.m.
A search of his vehicle allegedly revealed a partially empty bottle of tequila in the center console.
When tested later that evening, Morales’ blood alcohol content was discovered to be .17%, over double the legal limit of .08%.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He also received infractions for operating a vehicle without insurance, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, refusing to take a breath test and performing an unsafe turn.
