Port Chester police officers arrested a homeless man whose alleged larceny attempt was thwarted by his potential victims on Monday, Jan. 29.
A passerby allegedly witnessed a man checking the door handles of several parked vehicles on King Street and entering one. The witness alerted the owners of the cars, who were nearby, and called the police.
According to the police report, Dan Saldana was apprehended by three men, including the owner of the car he entered, and held down until police arrived. During the scuffle, Saldana allegedly threw items he had taken from the backseat onto the floorboard.
The 38-year-old was arrested at 11:43 a.m. and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent and petit larceny, both misdemeanors.
