After coming out with a remarkable 1-point win against Valhalla to advance their record to 12-7, the Blind Brook boys’ varsity basketball team looked towards Wednesday, Feb. 7 in a big game against Westlake. The boys knew this was an important game, as a win here would secure the league championship. The Blind Brook crowd made sure to show up and show out, wearing all red in support of the Trojans.
The Trojans were feeling good going into this game, having only lost by six last time to Westlake, although that was the worst basketball they have played all season. They knew that beating Westlake was no easy task, but it was within reach. Westlake sat at an impressive 15-5 record, and the Trojans were the only team in the way of the Wildcats from winning the league title.
These hopes were unfortunately dashed after the Trojans fell to the Wildcats by four points in a 63-59 contest. The showdown resulted in Westlake winning the league title, but the Trojans kept their heads high, knowing they had more to do.
On Friday, Feb. 9 the Trojans held their final game of the season at home against Pleasantville. The Panthers sat at a solid 11-9 record before this showdown. The Trojans were able to finish off the Panthers by a 73-61 score, ending their season with a win. The blackout crowd showed up as usual, and the Trojans are entering the playoffs with confidence.
Blind Brook’s 13-8 record earned them the 5 seed, behind Woodlands, Hamilton, Dobbs Ferry and Westlake. They had a very successful season and went 2-0 against teams that were in the top 5 in Class C, something that is nothing to be ashamed about. The Trojans continue to practice and work every day in preparation for their run to reach the Westchester County Center for the section finals. The Trojans will compete in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Westlake High School. They will play after the girls’ game with tipoff at 6:15 p.m.
