Dick Hubert’s Worldview How to change your voter registration for the 16th Cong. District Dem. Primary
January 18, 2024 at 12:16 a.m.
In last week's column I suggested that readers who are registered independents, Republicans, or even Conservatives and want to have a say as to who our next Congressperson will be will have to change their registration by Feb. 14 to be eligible to vote in the Democratic primary June 25.
But I failed to explain the process of making that change, and one reader who knew my personal contact information didn't know how to do it, messaged me and asked for help.
Here for the rest of you is what to do.
1) Call the Westchester County Board of Elections between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Their number is: (914) 995-5700.
2) Listen to the voice prompts and choose "registration."
3) A clerk will answer. Explain that you want to change your registration to another party and the clerk will ask for your name, address, and birthday, at the minimum. When the clerk finds you on the voting rolls, you'll be asked to confirm you're a registered voter and send you a blank voter registration in the mail to fill out and sign.
4) If you mail it back, allow plenty of time (like four days) for the Post Office to deliver it back to the Board of Elections.
5) If you put it off and need to hand deliver the completed form or want to fill out the form by picking it up and filling it out in person, the Board of Elections is at 25 Quarropas St. in White Plains.
6) If you're not registered to vote and want to vote in the 16th District Democratic Congressional election, follow these steps from the beginning.
