A routine arrest on Tuesday, June 25, allegedly turned violent when a homeless man reportedly attacked a Port Chester police officer.

An officer was driving down Bush Avenue when they spotted Alex Herrera, who had an active warrant for his arrest due to a prior incident. Police claim the 34-year-old approached the police and demanded to “fight one on one.” Herrera then allegedly spit on the officer, who moved to arrest him.

During the scuffle, a second officer arrived on scene and used his Taser to incapacitate Herrera. He was arrested and moved to a holding cell at the police precinct.

While in custody, Herrera allegedly damaged the button used to flush the toilet and clogged it with his clothes.

He was charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief and criminal tampering in the third degree, misdemeanors. He was additionally charged with the violation of disorderly conduct.
