Rye Brook and Port Chester residents who enjoyed frequenting the Stop & Shop in the Glenville, Conn. Shopping Center for decades will be happy to learn that a new supermarket will be taking its place—but they’ll have to wait until next summer to shop there.

That’s when the Westchester County-based chain DeCicco & Sons plans to open its first out-of-the-County store.

A major remodeling of the old Stop & Shop facility first must be approved by various boards in the Town of Greenwich.

Currently, according to a Decicco & Sons publicity release, plans for the store range from gourmet groceries to a specialty beer selection, Italian bakery, fresh produce, and prepared foods. Meats will be sourced from partner farms offering “humanely raised animals without using antibiotics or added hormones.”

Also in the store will be freshly brewed coffee, custom-made cakes, sushi, salads, and more.

For those seeking prepared meals, the onsite production kitchen will feature a hot food bar, grab-and-go meals, salads, and sides.

The DeCicco & Sons supermarket chain is not to be confused with the DeCicco Family Markets chain, whose nearest location is in Scarsdale.

Their website explains the history of the various branches of the family who got into the supermarket business.

“As the DeCicco family grew over the decades, so did branches of our business. You will find many family members operating various food and beverage businesses, independently, in Westchester, Rockland and Orange County, NY. As a family who immigrated here in 1958 with just a few dollars in our pockets, we are proud to have the same “roots” and look forward to growing our “branches” for generations to come.”
