While patrolling North Main Street on Wednesday, Mar. 13, a Port Chester police officer allegedly spotted two men having an argument near Highland Street.
One of the men claimed Wilmer Gomez had punched him twice in the face, according to the police report. Police believe Gomez was intoxicated, reportedly noting the odor of alcohol on his breath and his red and glassy eyes.
The victim, a cab driver, alleged Gomez had hired him to drive to his home at 71 Oak St. before asking to return to North Main Street at 4:22 a.m. Once back in the area, the suspect allegedly attacked the driver from the back seat before continuing the assault outside.
The 26-year-old was arrested after officers allegedly found signs the victim had been struck in the face. Gomez was charged assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor.
