While patrolling on Waterfront Place on Monday, Mar. 25, a Port Chester police officer allegedly spotted a man driving erratically down Don Bosco Place at 4:25 a.m.
The officer allegedly witnessed Brandon Flores Ortiz drive across the yellow pavement markings. According to the police report, after the police performed a traffic stop on Grace Church Street, Flores Ortiz drove onto the sidewalk before parking on the road.
The 24-year-old was allegedly unable to produce a valid driver's license. When questioned on whether he had been drinking, the 95 N. Ridge St., Rye Brook, resident allegedly told officers he had consumed three beers within the last hour.
Police claim to have observed an air freshener hanging from the rear-view mirror, obstructing the driver’s view. They also allegedly smelled alcohol on Flores Ortiz’s breath.
During standardized field sobriety tests, Flores Ortiz allegedly had difficulty walking in a straight line and standing on one leg.
A preliminary breath test allegedly showed alcohol in his system, and he was arrested. An hour later, his blood alcohol content was reportedly revealed to be .25%, over three times the legal limit of .08%.
Flores Ortiz was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. Additionally, he received infractions for driving without a license, driving on the left side of pavement markings, having the driver’s view obstructed and driving on the sidewalk.
