Blind Brook volleyball makes it through first round of playoffs
November 6, 2024 at 11:31 p.m.
The Blind Brook varsity volleyball team is a strong squad which has proved that time and time again with their 16 wins and two losses in the regular season. This record landed them the second seed. Although they had the same record as the Valhalla volleyball team, they ended with two less bonus points. These points are given for beating top level teams. Despite being the second seed, they still get all the benefits of being the first seed because they play at home for every game leading up to the final contest which will be played at a neutral location.
In the sectional playoffs, one loss will end their season, so Blind Brook is putting everything out there on the court. For their first game, they did not know who they would play because they had received a bye, meaning that they would not play in the first round so there was no chance of elimination. They were slated to play the winner of number seven seed Westlake and number 10 seed Hastings. Westlake won, so they were first to play the Blind Brook team.
Blind Brook faced Westlake on Saturday, Nov. 2 at home since they were the higher seed, and they played a tough match. This was the quarterfinals, the second to last game before they would return to the section finals for the third year in a row. The team felt confident going into the game because they had beat Westlake twice in the regular season since they were league opponents. Blind Book beat Westlake 3-1 with the set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-14. Fernanda Julian had 42 assists, Oriah Rosenfeld had 13 kills and 21 digs, Ella Rosenfeld had 21 kills, Madeline Hirsch had six kills, and Maria Gracia Leyva Pereyra had 14 digs. This victory qualified them for the semifinals which would be played after press time Wednesday, Nov. 6, against Putnam Valley on Blind Brook’s home court.
The Trojans were working hard in their down time with a five-hour practice on Sunday, Nov. 3, Blind Brook’s day off. They are looking for revenge if they meet Valhalla in the finals again. The Trojans have no wins and two losses to the Vikings, and they are looking to make sure first that they make it to their third consecutive section final game, and second, they are looking to win their second section title against what would likely be the strong Valhalla team. If the Blind Brook Trojans make it back to the section finals, they will be played at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Saturday, Nov. 9.
