A homeless man was arrested by Port Chester police officers on Thursday, Oct. 31, after he allegedly forced his way into a house in an attempt to collect his security deposit.

A resident of 33 Summer St. reportedly returned home at 5:20 p.m. to find two of the building’s doors, and their frames, damaged. Police claim a neighbor told officers they saw Santiago Granados approach the home and heard a series of loud bangs before seeing him leave the area.

Using the description provided by the witness, officers found and arrested the 43-year-old later that day.

Granados told officers he went to the house to recover his $300 security deposit after moving out, but when he found no one was home to let him in, he kicked both doors in.

He was charged with burglary in the second degree and criminal mischief in the second degree, both felonies.
