The morning of Wednesday, Sept. 25, saw six reports of car break-ins on several Rye Brook streets.

According to Police Lieutenant J. Arnold, the incidents occurred sometime overnight on Arlington Place, Meadowlark Road, Lincoln Avenue, Winding Wood Road, Jacqueline Lane and Betsy Brown Road.

Four of the vehicles had been entered through force, Arnold said, as the suspect gained entry by breaking the windows. Two other cars had been left unlocked by the owners.

Police report a wallet, backpack and at least $35 in cash had been taken from the cars.

Arnold said a similar string of break-ins occurred in Harrison the same night.

“It was probably the same person or persons who randomly went from street to street,” he said.

Though Arnold was unsure whether the suspects may return, as the crime spree appeared sporadic and crossed jurisdictional borders, he urged residents to keep their cars locked and to remove valuables from them to deter any potential break-ins.

Officer presence in the area was increased and the investigation is ongoing.
