While parked on Boston Post Road on Sunday, Sept. 1, a Port Chester police officer allegedly spotted a Subaru being driven without its headlights on at around 8:30 p.m.

According to the police report, as the officer was pulling onto the road, they saw the car turn onto Olivia Street before hearing a loud crash. The driver, Moises Contreras, allegedly collided with two parked cars and tried to leave as the officer approached, but stopped near Smith Street once the officer activated their emergency lights.

Police claim the 68-year-old appeared disoriented, having difficulty finding his documents and was unable to tell the officer where he had come from. When asked if he had been drinking prior to driving, Contreras allegedly responded: “only tequila.”

The 138 Washington St. resident allegedly performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, failing to follow instructions and continuously swayed side to side throughout the examination. A preliminary breath test detected alcohol in his system, and he was arrested.

A chemical test revealed Contreras’ blood alcohol content to be .24%, three times the legal limit of .08%.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and received infractions for driving with inoperable headlamps and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
