Last week, two out-of-towners were charged with driving while intoxicated.
*While patrolling Slater Street on Sunday, Sept. 1, a Port Chester police officer allegedly spotted a man driving on the wrong side of the road directly towards them.
The driver, Oscar Valle Jimenez, stopped after his car struck the curb. When the police asked if he had realized he was driving the wrong way, the 33-year-old allegedly replied he hadn’t because he was having a mechanical issue with his car and was texting someone for help.
Valle Jimenez told officers he did not have a driver’s license and was in the process of applying for one, but a background check allegedly revealed his license was suspended in August.
Police claim to have seen several objects hanging from the rearview mirror of the vehicle, blocking the driver’s view, and an empty beer bottle in the center cupholder.
The Stamford, Conn. man claimed the bottle did not belong to him. The officer waited for backup to perform standardized field sobriety tests. According to the police report, when the second officer arrived and searched the car, the bottle was found on the ground outside.
During the sobriety examination, Valle Jimenez allegedly had difficulty counting properly and walking in a straight line. A preliminary breath test detected alcohol in his system and he was arrested at 3:02 a.m.
His blood alcohol content was revealed to be .10%, over the legal limit of .08%.
Valle Jimenez was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. He also received infractions for failing to use the designated lane, depositing refuse on a highway and adjacent lands, using a mobile phone while driving and having the driver’s view obstructed.
