With the Blind Brook volleyball season well underway, the Lady Trojans have played an intense week of games proving their relentlessness to the volleyball community and making a statement in the section. They currently have an undefeated record of four wins, all clean sweeps, meaning they did not lose a single set yet this year.
After winning their home opener against Westlake, the Blind Brook volleyball team was away against North Salem. This, although not a league game, was a crucial win for the Lady Trojans, proving their dominance outside of just their league. The game ended 3-0 with the set scores at 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19.
Their next game was at home against Croton-Harmon and it was another 3-0 contest for the Lady Trojans on Friday, Sept. 13. The scores of the sets were 25-18, 25-8 and 25-15. Fernanda Julian had 25 assists, Madeline Hirsch had three kills and two blocks, Maria Leyva had seven digs and Ella Rosenfeld has nine kills, five aces and two blocks. Furthermore, Oriah Rosenfeld had 10 kills and 15 digs, Tanisha Venkatapur had three aces and three kills, Georgianna Haas had five aces and Annabel Rosenfeld had three kills.
The Lady Trojans then were on the road again but this time at a tournament held at Ossining High School on Saturday, Sept. 14. They were seeded #1 in the tournament going into the playoff round after they had won their round robin games. They unfortunately lost to Ossining (class AA) who they would not typically play because they are in a class two sizes bigger than Blind Brook’s (class B). It was still a hard-fought match. The statistics were a combination of all the games they played that day in the tournament. Fernanda Julian had 51 sets and 12 aces, Ella Rosenfeld has 28 kills, six blocks, 12 aces and 32 digs, Oriah Rosenfeld had 28 kills and three blocks, Venkatapur had 10 kills, Haas had 37 digs and six aces and Annabel Rosenfeld had nine kills.
Then came the match against Albertus Magnus on Tuesday, Sept 17 that the team had been waiting for since 2022 when they beat them in the section finals to win their first ever championship. This was a game that would make a statement one way or another about this year’s Blind Brook volleyball team and they were sure up to the challenge. Albertus Magnus was not able to rise to the challenge again in 2024 which was shown when the Blind Brook Trojans beat them 3-0. The Blind Brook team won the sets: 25-7, 25-10 and 25-20. Ella Rosenfeld had 12 kills and two blocks, Fernanda Julian had 21 assists, Venkatapur had four kills as did Annabel Rosenfeld.
This is only the beginning for the Blind Brook volleyball team with many more matches and more importantly league matches coming up in the next few weeks. They take on Rye, a non-league opponent, on Friday, Sept. 20 at home, then Edgemont, another non-league opponent, away on Monday, Sept. 23 and they resume league play against Briarcliff on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at home. All games start at 4:30 p.m.
