Reports of a car accident brought Port Chester police officers to the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Pearl Street on Friday, Sept. 20.
They arrived and spoke with one of the drivers, who claimed Alvaro Gonzales Lemus caused the accident by running a red light.
Gonzales Lemus told officers he didn’t have a valid driver’s license, according to the police report, but they discovered he did, and it had been suspended after a previous alcohol-related incident.
According to the police report, the 26-year-old admitted to drinking six Modelos at a nearby nightclub before getting behind the wheel. Police claim the 10 Rollhaus Pl. resident was slurring his speech throughout the interaction.
During standardized field sobriety tests, Gonzales Lemus allegedly had difficulty counting and was unable to walk in a straight line. A preliminary breath test found alcohol in his system, and he was arrested at 6:51 a.m.
When tested, his blood alcohol level was revealed to be .17%, more than double the legal limit of .08%.
Gonzales Lemus was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He also received an infraction for running the red light.
