State of emergencies declared to combat COVID-19 outbreak

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus throughout Westchester, County Executive George Latimer initiated a state of emergency. The Town of Rye, as well as the Village of Port Chester, quickly followed suit. 

Library closing for a week

The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library will be closed from March 14, 2020-March 22, 2020.

New stop sign on Putnam Ave.

A new stop sign has been installed in the westbound lane of Putnam Avenue, at the Willett Avenue intersection, after the New York State Department of Transportation completed a traffic study and deemed the new street sign necessary. 

COVID-19 related schedule changes at the Anthony J. Posillipo Center

In an effort to protect the health and safety of all users of the Anthony J. Posillipo Community Center with respect to COVID-19, the following Policies & Procedures have been established effective Mar. 11 through Apr. 30: 

Port Chester Senior Center closing for two weeks

In the interest of the public’s health, and the growing concern over exposure to COVID-19 virus, the Village of Port Chester Senior Center will be closed beginning Monday, Mar. 16. 

Capitol doesn’t escape coronavirus closings

One location after another has closed and one event after another has been cancelled this week. So it’s no surprise that Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre has cancelled its Phil Lesh 80th Birthday concerts this weekend.

Red, yellow and green flashing on Irving again

Over a month later, the streetlights at the four-way intersections at Irving Avenue and North Pearl Street, as well as Irving Avenue and Poningo Street, are back to flashing their red, yellow and green signals.

Another self-storage facility coming to Port Chester?

A fourth self-storage facility will be built in Port Chester if the contract-vendee of 354 North Main St. has their way. One of the others, Westy Self Storage, is right across the street.

Port Chester in the movies

Scenes from a movie that was to be called “Going Places” were shot in Port Chester in August 2016. However, the film never appeared—until now, that is—and the name has changed.

The Castle sold to Anthos Properties

The Castle, a 120-unit luxury rental property at 201 Willett Ave., has been sold by Castle Port Chester LLC to Anthos Properties, a real estate and property management company based in Nanuet, N.Y., for $38.6 million. Anthos owns properties in New York, Illinois, Georgia and Alabama, according to their website.

Almost two years later, wall still in disrepair

A retaining wall on Midland Avenue had to be made safe by the Village of Port Chester after a property owner did not make necessary repairs to it in a timely manner upon obtaining a building permit.

Irving Ave. streetlights to be repaired soon

The streetlights at the four-way intersections at Irving Avenue and North Pearl Street, as well as at Irving Avenue and Poningo Street, have been out for over a month.

Owners will be moving into Bowridge Commons soon

The 16 units of fair and affordable housing at the corner of Bowman Avenue and Barber Place have been completed for a year and a half, but there are still no cars in the parking lot.
