The Hillside Avenue bridge, one of the two crossways across the Byram River that connect Port Chester to Connecticut. It, along with the Putnam Avenue bridge, is scheduled to be demolished in 2026 as part of a flood mitigation project headed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Two historic Byram River crossings to be demolished, rebuilt due to flooding conditions

As a village that predates the nation, Port Chester is home to numerous historic landmarks. Some, like the Bush-Lyon Homestead in Lyon Park or the Life Savers building at 366 N. Main Street, are noticeable. Others, however, are less likely to draw people’s attention.
