The Port Chester School District recently entered into a partnership with Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children from gun violence in schools. The Blind Brook Schools has also worked with the group, which has provided staff with tools to help with students’ social-emotional health.

Districts work with nonprofit to provide students with healthy social-emotional environment and prevent school shootings

In the last several years, the Port Chester School District has made concerted efforts to prioritize the safety of its students. Administrators proposed and installed various upgrades across the district, including improved security cameras, wall mounted emergency buttons and enhanced vestibules for guards to screen visitors. To that end, the Board of Education approved a partnership starting this school year with Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit founded by families of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, during a meeting in May.
