Dick Hubert’s Worldview: A European vacation in unsettling times brings a variety of crises front and center

Three weeks of travel in Portugal and the Netherlands during an unnerving time in American and world history has been, to pick a word, a bracing experience. That is, like being slapped in the face with a reality best left unnoticed or unmentioned.

Letter: Biden, not Putin, is to blame

Blame Putin! No baby formula, $5 plus gasoline, blame Putin. Unsecured borders where poisonous fentanyl and criminals are pouring in; blame Putin. Highest inflation in 40 years, again blame Putin.

Letter: On the death of Mikhail Gorbachev

Last week the first and only president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, died.

Letter: What type of retail will fill ground floor space of mixed-use buildings in downtown P.C.?

For Port Chester residents who have not been keeping up with development plans for our village, the eight residential towers for King Street, North Main Street, South Main Street, Westchester Avenue, Willett Avenue, Pearl Street and Broad Street will total 1,730 units with 1,421 parking spaces.

Letter: Proud to be a P.C. resident

The last three weeks there have been some incredible community events.

Back to school for Ukrainian kids

The new school year is starting soon. Preschools, grade schools and colleges are getting ready to welcome students. Kindergartners and college freshmen are excited to meet their teachers and classmates. Parents are rushing to get the school supplies for their kids. It used to be like that in Ukraine.

Letter: Parking needs in Port Chester

Letter: A deal for Mr. Vitagliano

There is a kernel of clarity in Aldo Vitagliano’s latest offering in these pages. Political parties should be allowed to nominate whoever they want and those nominating them should be limited to members of the party.

Letter: Hats off to AJ

In 1962 Del Shannon had a big hit called “Hats off to Larry.” Well, now we have a new hit called the Weber Drive Basketball Classic, and what a big hit it was.

Letter: PCHS Marching Band Association thanks community for support

The Port Chester High School Marching Band Association wishes to give a big shoutout to the entire Port Chester/Rye Brook community for the overwhelming support given to the PCHS Marching Band for all of our fundraisers over the years.

Letter: Why is revenge-driven witch hunt George Ford’s priority on school board?

It seems as if it's a rarity these days when elected officials keep their promises. Little did we know that when George Ford reportedly threatened former Superintendent Ed Kliszus saying, "When I'm on the board, I'll fix you," this was the promise he planned to prioritize.

Letter: Thanks to P.C. Post Office for cleaning up their site

I'd like to thank the administration of the Port Chester Post Office for cleaning up the exterior of their site on Westchester Avenue.

Letter: An exceptionally well-written letter!

Not sure who came up with the headline "An exceptionally well-written article" for Ron Weckessar's letter where he comments on the July 15 front page article in the Westmore News on "Anti-abortion activists clap back" (Opinion, July 29, 2022). This was, by far, one of the strongest and most sensible …

Dick Hubert’s Worldview: The Boston Globe’s Jeff Jacoby argues taxpayers shouldn’t pay for primaries

Some last thoughts before heading out on vacation… Hours before my column last week on the awfulness of the New York State closed primary system, the conservative leaning columnist for the Boston Globe, Jeff Jacoby, published a sweeping denunciation of these closed primaries which has already angered local Republicans, and …

Dick Hubert’s Worldview: Brutal news from the State Board of Elections: The partisan assault on voting rights continues

Here’s the democracy-destroying news of a brutal New York State Board of Elections Democratic/Republican attack on my voting rights (and for sure many of yours) that came in hours after my column last week was published.
